About the event

Learn to Weave: The Mini Nest Basket

Join us for a hands-on basket weaving class, no experience necessary! This virtual studio class is a relaxing setting with step-by-step guidance from start to finish.

This studio class is appropriate for new beginners and all levels of experience. We'll use natural materials and simple tools to create a timeless work of art, a great addition to your home decor.

This basket may be made with natural rattan round reed and other material for customization.  The class will learn different techniques to make a quick and easy mini basket, great for holding small trinkets, flowers, or other small accessories.

This basket is designed to be completed during the one session workshop.  You will leave feeling refreshed and renewed with your weaving skills, and a completed basket ready to bring new cheer to a spot in your home.

  • The Mini Nest Kit sold HERE has all material included for two baskets!
  • Interested in customizing your basket? Bring yarn, twine, raffia, or any other embellishments you'd like to weave into the basket to class! We're excited to see your creativity!
  • Prior to class, fill your kitchen sink or tub with cool water to soak the reed material in.
  • Tools required include craft scissors or snips, and a towel.

Instructor: Kay Flick of HomesteadHill Studio

Skill Level: All levels welcome, Adults, and Kids age 8+ recommended.

Skills Taught: Handwork, Setting the Base, Continuous Weave, Rim Detail, Shaping.

About the Instructor: Kay learned the art of basket weaving when she was a new mom, in need of a Girls Night Out! It quickly turned into weekly events with friends, and many, many baskets.  Kay often sold baskets at a local gift shop to clear space in her home for new creations.  Thirty years later, Kay still makes time to spend in the studio every week, and gets excited for the opportunity to encourage new weavers to grow their skillset.
